Not a coffee pot? Then what is it? (photo of parts added)
« on: 30 July 2025, 09:30:58 PM »

Sorry to the deprived caffeine addicts - the image may stir desire.

For the rest of you, what do you see this being turned into for gaming purposes?  My first thought was a water tank for a train but I have enough of those already.  Maybe something more of a pulp feel to it?  Or something in a Star Wars setting.

Stands maybe 6" tall or so.  Using for 15 mm.

Let your imagination run riot and see if you inspire me.

Found at a thrift store for 2 US bucks.

Have fun.  And thanks!

That's definitely not a coffeee pot.

This is a coffee pot.

Perhaps, Carlos, but that doesn't really forward any ideas.  The focus is on how to adapt the kid's toy into something useful for our miniatures hobby.  Or, at least, I hope so!  ;)

I have some suggestions.

First suggestion is a charging station for large fighting robots. Repaint the liquid storage with a green or blue glow to imply a power source. Add wires as cables from the spigot. Add some gubbins around the spigot to partially disguise it. Add a ladder up one or both sides, with a walkway going around the level at the spigot and another walkway at the top. Paint a red safety light at the top, add wire frames at the top as antennae and communications gear. Add some rectangular panels around the sides as billboards.

Second suggestion is a large tank of collected bodies, body juices and preserving/growing liquid for an evil medical research megacorp or well-organised cult. (These may be the same organisation.) Add some vague outlines of bodies to the liquid storage part. Add wires as cables from the spigot. Add some gubbins around the spigot to partially disguise it. Add a ladder and lifting platform up one or both sides, with a walkway going around the level at the spigot and another walkway at the top. Add a couple of derricks and wire frames at the top to imply lifting stuff in and out of the body tank. Add some rectangular panels around the sides as medical readouts on the occupants.

Third suggestion is a variant of the second suggestion. Instead of human or humanoid sized bodies, paint one giant head in the liquid storage. For bonus terror, make the head look like Walt Disney.

Grain storage, water tank, fuel tank, steel plant press. Turn on its side and you have a propulsion unit/launcher for monorail or similar. Taking the base off for that obviously

Use it as part of a 1950s/ 60s diner. You know the type that has a giant fibreglass/ ferro concrete thing making a visual reference to the nature of the business. You know like a giant hamburger. Build a diner onto it and call it... 'The Coffee Pot Diner'. Slice of Americana, perfect for post-apocalyptic or zombie games.

13 years ago already ( :o ), I participated in a scratchbuilding contest here on the LAF called the Trash Bash and did not do too shabby if I do say so myself.

In it, I turned a cheap gumball machine into an observatory, and that not-coffeemachine reminds me of that project. perhaps something along those lines?

Failing that, how about an airport control tower?

Given that there is transparent 360° sight, it is obviously a watchtower of some sort. Traffic control, airport, spaceport, lighthouse, guards, viewpoint - anything like that...

Some interesting - and some far out - ideas to consider.  Going to have to disassemble it and see where that leads me.

I'm leaning towards something Nemo-esque so perhaps some sort of underwater feature.  Other nautical thoughts like the lighthouse mentioned are also in the running.  Perhaps something for the secret submarine base (non-Nemo)?

A lot will depend on that disassembly process.  Stay tuned...

Gubbins?  Hmm, now I have a name for that collection of odd bits and pieces - the gubbins box.   :D

With some bits it could be a high rise.

No photos (yet) but the parts are the clear top, the pot lid, the 'coffee' insert (the dark brown part), the bottom half, the base, and the on-off switch.  Rather clever how it assembles with minimal pieces.  Three little screws in the bottom (and I might have lost one!).

Daeothar, that observatory build was inspired.

Still in the thinking stage so more ideas are welcome but definitely leaning into seaport usage.  So, suggestions in that direction most helpful.  One thought is an 'aquarium' for keeping certain aquatic 'captives' for study.  Hmm, maybe a few different builds from one toy starting point?!  Only really need the clear part for the aquarium idea - and the lid. That leaves the 'coffee' insert and the bottom portions to work with.

Here is a photo of the parts - and I found the missing screw:

More potential in the various bits than as a whole. The 'coffee' insert would make a decent water tower. The lid could be part of a radar dish or radio telescope and the glass outer  with the holes in the bottom could be used to serve drinks to guests with a child like sense of humour.
