I always assume the blood comes from the victims or because they are fresh and still bloody from a violent turning and also because modern zombies are infected and not undead.

No, some modern 'zombies' are infected humans, (28 days later etc...) Some are undead (Day of the Dead remake).

Don't just step into the zombie ring and think you can box buddy!  ;D

If you do zombies in any scale LOWER than 28mm the blood comes in really handy too.

Already in 20mm I find that without the blood it's hard to make the Z's stand out.
