Flying base for Ironclad 'nef?
« on: 10 February 2010, 03:04:58 PM »
I just bought one of these, and am very happy with it, but am at a loss as to what I can use for a flying base for it.

I have considered brass rod, but would prefer something transparent instead of it balancing on a thick black column. Now, I've seen folks use clear plastic rod of varying thickness, but where does one get it from?

Can anyone help? Links to suppliers or offers of offcuts would be equally accepted, if I may be so presumptious.

Much obliged chaps.  :)

guessing you're looking for 28mm stuff, I dare to propose looking at the site of a certain factory:

As an alternative, used by Messrs Bullshott, Thunderchief and myself upturned plastic Martini glasses.( Teh kind you see in Sainsbury's etc to accompany picnics. They are pretty cheap too, circa £1.per glass.
The benefits are you can have a delightful cocktail before and after the game ;)

Thunderchief

The other wargamer from Shropshire.

As Mamalute said, these glasses work well and are cheap. They are good for doing Darth Vader impressions too.

We picked up some acrylic rod in an art shop in Edinburgh, sold in various sizes (quarter inch to 1 inch, some pieces almost a yard long).

Maybe you have an art shop near you that can supply some ?
