Problems with dark hair arabians for DA
« on: February 23, 2010, 10:21:57 PM »
I'm trying to find a correct tone, I'm looking for a dusted and tangled very dark brown, near black hair... I've found some advices for black hair, but all works with blues, anyone have ideas about how to find this kind of tones? Perhaps with bestialbrown+black base? I can't find the correct tones...  :'( :'(

In all my attemps the look like white-hair, or in blue looks very strange tone!!

Thanks

Coat D`Arms has a `Negro` colour in it`s range, which is a very dark brown bordering on black, and a `Panzer Grey` whoch is a very dark and mat grey also close to black.  Might be worth to take a look at those?

Very dark brown - any you have.  If not dark enough add some black.  Then wash with black.  Ink, thinned acrylic paint or those GW washes.

I use Americana Black Plum. Also Ceramacoat Black Cherry or Dark Chocolate or Chocolate Cherry. All have that very dark auburn look. I also use it for many of my Afgans. I also have an old bottle of Raul Partha Dark Chocolate. If you thin them before Painting the under coat will show through giving the hair texture.

If you want a dusted look, you have to drybrush the lighter color on the darker one. Watered down black paint will result in a glossy effect I think.

Why dont you basecoat with black and then lightly drybrush with a grey + brown mix?
