where do you get high end barbed wire
« on: 19 November 2009, 09:39:36 AM »
Hello,

I am looking for good quality 28mm scale compatible barbed wire, the catch being I dont want the basic stuff you see which is thin wire coiled round thicker wire.

I have seen some etched brass but have not had luck finding a UK supplier and to be honest I really dont want to make my own.

Does any one have any good UK based leads they could share?

Thanks

The Antenociti's one is the wire wrapped around wire style, although it's quite fine so looks good.

I use the Forge World barbed wire, it's nice brass etched stuff that even when coiled properly will give you about 4-6' for just under £6. It is proper etched barbed wire though so be careful with it!

Scale Link does wire in several scales.  The O Scale (1/43) set would probably be the best bet although it may look a bit large.  The OO Scale (1/76) might look a bit better, even though it's slightly small! You pays your money, you makes your choice!

Here's a link to the O Scale set.  Lots of other useful items on site as well.

If you are still looking there is a great tutorial on The Ammobunker, a primarily Warhammer 40,000 forum. http://ammobunker.org/

I'd link you to it directly but the site isn't loading for me right now for some reason. Scroll down to the tutorials section. There's two in there, one cool barbed wire and one wire wrapped around wire one, so don't be mislead if you come across the 'standard' one first!

I've tried it myself, it's quick and it works a treat, though it helps having an extra set of hands for the early stages of twining  when one is still trying to wrestle the wire around before it loses it's 'memory'.

Edit: Here it is! http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7194989/1/#new Once again, really easy to make, and looks fantastic.
