Toward the end of the US war in Viet-Nam, it became fashionable in some circles of US citizens to openly back the communist guerrillas in south Viet-Nam (the Viet Cong, or Viet Commies, the term originated with the Diem regime and it was an insulting term for the south Viet-Namese communists) and the North Vietnamese Regulars (NVA, North Viet-Namese Army). Fonda was one of the fashion leaders in this movement.

She travelled to Hanoi, posed with an NVA anti-aircraft gun (she claims to regret this) made several radio broadcasts and claimed that the North Viet-Namese were not torturing the POWs they held. She quite blatantly turned her back on us and I have no use for her.

A good friend of mine is an ex-POW. A prisoner of the VC, not the NVA, where things were rougher then they were in the Hanoi Hilton. He has severe health problems because of his treatment as a POW, which will probably cost him 20 years of his life. He is my buddy.

I have disdain for Ms. Fonda's actions myself (I am such a "Monroe era" conservative I have come to intensely dislike Republicrats in both "Major Parties") but if I really don't like mixing politics with miniatures in the manner this thread is showing.

Stick to the miniatures aspect of the thread, please.

That rumour comes up a lot: at one point Drew Barrymore allegedly had the rights; later it was said that Robert Rodriguez was going to film it with Rose MacGowan in the lead.

Did you know that there has been a stage musical version of Barbarella?  Staged in Vienna, I think, in the 1990s, with music by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics.  If we're very, very lucky. Lady GaGa will never hear about this ...

We should not confuse the comics character of Barbarella, sexy heroine of the future created by Jean-Claude Forest, who was to be the topic of this discussion, inspired by the physical aspects to the actress Brigitte Bardot, with the behavior and ideological choices of Jane Fonda, who had only interpreted the character in the film directed by her husband (former husband of Brigitte Bardot).
Jane Fonda and his politics, with the character of Barbarella, as nothing to do.
