help? Painting on real Pewter Danbury

So I acquired some Danbury collectable pewter cars.  I know some people (collectors not gamers) will think this horrible but I hope to paint them.  So any advice about painting on real pewter???  Special primer?  prewash?  "Whatever you do, don't...?

Oh 2 of the 1909 Rolls Royce, and a 1913 Mercer.
