I fancy one of those myself for 1930s pulp gaming. Anyone know of any sources in the UK? Shipping from the US is a killer.

Alternatively can we get a comparison shot to some 28mm minis and some dimensions so I can try and match up some kits I have found but don't mention scale.

Will do once I receive mine. I hope my Foundry Darkest Africa bearers will arrive quickly. A decent MU professor needs his stuff carried around from the plane...no way he will do that himself. ;)

Why is that?  I have shipped stuff from  Florida, to LAFers in Germany, and even Guam, and the shipping was so cheap, it was basically free.

England to the US, and US to England seems like a mutual scam (I think our poatsal services are sandbagging).

Same with AUS.  Bought some Australian made fishing rods, and the shipping was more than the rods cost. :(

Shipping from the US to Europe usually is cheap...unless ordering from stores and some eBay sellers. Whenever I bought stuff from forum members the rates were always very good. But somehow some stores have real issues with international orders. Really a shame, as they won't sell to me.

For example, I once wanted to buy two Raphael brushes. The store said shipping would be $25 to ship them. 25 BUCKS! I immediately cancelled the order. Insanity!

Aye it was an ebay seller that was over charging, I took a look at one of the planes on Ebay and they wanted $30 to ship it to the UK.. Bit daft for a $15 plane.

If anyone knows a US retailer with reasonable shipping rates to the UK I'll consider that too.

These Sky Pilot planes turn up in Lidls about twice a year, I have a DC3 in close to 1/100 for use with 15mm figures and they cost about £3.00 at the time.

I have one of those Franklin Mint Junkers F-13 floatplanes.  It's spectacular, and I think worth the price.  That was actually the world's first commercial airliner, although it could only carry 4 pasengers in the small cabine.  A late 1920's airplane with much bigger capacity is the famous Ford Tri-motor. Also, I believe there were later larger Junkers leading up to the Ju-52 of WW2 fame.

I'd suggest that plane selection should depend on the size of the group of figures to be transported.  If you want a couple of figures, then there's plenty of 2 seat airplanes.  For a group of six figures, that F-13 is perfect.  For a group of a dozen figures, a Ford Tri-motor would be a good choice.

Given the scale, a scratchbuild would be a real possibility, especially since these 1920's aircraft were somewhat boxy.  The plane could be stated to be an experimental model, so it wouldn't have to be modelled on a historical plane.
