Dr. Pim

Dr. Pim, from the Victorian spinoff of the excellent webcomic "Narbonic". http://www.narbonic.com

The figure started as an octopus by Reaper Miniatures, then I added a raygun, goggles, and a beak.  The figure is based on a US penny, and painted by me.

This is intended to go with/against the Martian Hussars I posted a couple weeks ago.
You, sir, are not allowed to attempt a takeover of the solar system until your octopus sobers up.

Awesome Froggy! I don't know the character, but he looks VSF to the core

Great figure from a charming series!

I'll admit the goggles don't quite work for me; I had to be told. Sorry for my lack of perception. Doesn't stop how I'm delighted otherwise!

Thanks so much; I believe I'll hunt for a re-read shortly.

I think I agree, the goggles lack any kind of strap and thus look a bit like golden eyelids. Which still looks pretty nice, on a darn nice mini, but not what you were going for I think?

My impression based on the drawings I was working from was that they were held in place like monocles.  I got a little more Homer Simpson and a little less autocratic mad scientist octopus, but oh well.

I went for a re-read, and realized it takes awhile to understand the VSF thread is buried in a modern one.

If you haven't gotten into it enough to see that, try going to:
http://www.webcomicsnation.com/shaenongarrity/narbonic_plus/toc.php
And text search for 'astonishing'.

You have to keep going back to the index and searching down for the next chapter, as it's used as a Sunday supplement, but you may well find it worth the effort. Me, I enjoy most of the strip.

Haven't got to Pym yet, though.

Doug

Edit: Oh, and the artist allows the strip to go self-referential on occasion, so many of the 'huh?' moments may have explanations in a non-VSF thread.
