Painting Tigers (No, not the Tanks, the animals)
« on: 13 February 2011, 10:31:25 PM »
Hey Guys

Anyone have any tips on painting 15mm Tigers. A friend of mine asked me if I had any idea, but I do not!

Cheers
Rob

if I was to paint Tigers -  I'd start with an off white colour all over, (white with a hint of khaki?), then a thinned coat of yellow/brown over the body & legs but leaving the underside of the body & inside of the legs white. Then a thinned dark brown to provide the stripes.

I've not tried it myself - but thats how I'd do it - hope that helps

I used Coat d'arms #224 Horse Tone Bay, with black and off white. But I painted a 28mm cat. There is a lot more white on a tiger then you would expect.

Are the stripes giving you the hard time?

You might want to get them to the basic orange type base coat then try "drawing" the stripes on using those fine point art felt tips pens.

Hope this helps,
Warren

Some tigers recently painted on Hetairoi

If we ask nicely, maybe we can get a step-by-step guide?

Those are nice. I'd just google image tigers and experiment . I remember many years ago painting GW's Tigers of Pan Tang from their Eternal Champion range and also being struck by how white they are.
I've never had much luck using pens on figures. I find the colour 'bleeds'. Only time that's helped was doing old tatoo's!
Anyway, good luck to him, Rob.
