Using the Pulp FIlm crew and Photographers
« on: 26 January 2011, 11:12:32 PM »
Hey

I have the Pulp Figures film grew and the Rattrap reporter lady with a camera.  Im looking to use them in some multiplayer games where each team has their own objectives.  Id like to use the film crew/photographer as their own group with their objective to be to capture exciting footage of Kong Island instead of getting involved in combat.  Does anyone do this for their games?  What sort of rules do you use?  IVe got a couple ideas.

1. make a skill check to use the camera.  If sucessful, you could either draw a random chit representing a number of victory points or recieve a number of victory points based on how close you are to the action.

2. The film crew would be unarmed.  Human adversaries would be prevented from shooting unarmed characters.  Unarmed characters would automatically surender if engaged in close combat allowing them to be used as hostages or volcano sacrifices.  Wild animals would have no such qualms about attacking unarmed characters.  They are fair game.

3. For a Kong Island game. I would have a first mate and a couple of sailors to protect the film crew. one of the other groups would be the ships captain and some more sailors with their goal to also protect the film crew or perhaps have their own secret goal to accoplish something else and the safety of the film crew is of secondary consideration.  This could lead to some interesting backstabbing at an inopportune time.

Id  appreciate any other ideasyou may have.

Thanks

Chuck

Love that idea, don't forget the reporter and photographer team, too.  8)

There's a old thread here on the same subject that might give you some ideas:

I used the idea in a .45 Adventure scenario some time ago. Basically the photographer had to pass a brain check to take a truly interesting photo. Of course that meant taking a picture of the smugglers (see below) in action. Each photo was worth 1 point.

One of the other teams were a police force trying to arrest smugglers. As you can guess, each successful arrest was worth 1 point.

The last team were the smugglers who had to find cases of booze and transfer them to their car and get them away safely. Again, each case was worth 1 point.

The side with the most points won.

I have been thinking a bit along the same lines (idea was meant for Near Future/contemporary news teams (Copplestone/Em4), but would work for a Pulp film crew, too, I think):

A camera has to draw line of sight to any action ocurring, then make some kind of check (skill or shooting or whatever) to see if it 'hits' (i.e. records) the event, and if so, some kind of reward is earned, depending on the game/scenario. For news teams, there's a bonus if the news reporter is also in the picture to comment on the ongoings while they happen (which means, he/she must be placed BETWEEN the camera and the action, facing the camera - which, in turn, limits the LOS of the camera). This could be expanded to having actors in the shoot in the case of King Kong.

That way a team can actually compete against fighting parties for VP or whatever. And/or several teams can compete to get the most/best footage/coverage of the events, while the fighting parties just slug it out.

Actually, this is very close to your take on it, and if more persons think alike, it must be doable, right?  ;)

Some good ideas in there. I like the thought of Victory points being based on how close to the action (remember, this is pulp, there were no zoom lenses---well, rudimentary ones on movie cameras). I would say 1 point for any combat within 8", 2 points for any combat within 4". That would have the photographer trying to get in close to the action. And of course, the villains do not want their hijinks caught on film, so they'll be looking to stop the person.

And yes, line of sight would have to be drawn to the villain's front 180 degrees.
