UPDATE...
More Huron posted on the site.

I just posted up some new Huron figs and my first try at war paint.  I've shied away from it as I haven't wanted to destroy a model f it doesn't look right, but heck, here it goes.

More to be found on the blog, with better close ups.

Thanks for looking.

Looking good Fergal! The whites of the eyes stand out a bit, but on the plus side they still look good. I'm frequently guilty of "Little Orphan Annie" syndrome myself. I've gone to using either GW Elf Flesh or Vallejo Iraqi Sand for eyes myself, when I bother doing them at all.

Thanks for the feedback, I recieved a very similar comment on another forum, so there's definately something to it. :)

I am still working on finding a solution that I'm happy with, and I think the red paint made the way I do eyes stand out more than usual, but I'm still not happy with the results completely.  Satisfied at the moment, but still working.

A very good start! Maby some more warpaint on the body (thin black lines and dots).

Nice work Fergal, the detail shots on the blog really show how things are progressing.

I've left a couple of comments re war-paint + would echo Frank's comment  :)

Thanks for posting these Derek! You can never have to much inspiration.

I imagine it will be years before I bring myself to try tattoos.

Tattoos are not too bad, I use GW blue wash. As it's quite thin it gives a nice "washed out" look to the tattoos. I also keep the patterns simple, rings around arms, dots etc. I don't think i'll be doing any ships or "I love Edna" on any sailors or arms soon!

Not to threadjack here, but I was at Fort Meigs in Toledo, Ohio this past weekend for a gaming convention.  I found the world's best book for warpaint and tattoo ideas.  It is a compilation of Robert Griffing's paintings.  It cost me a very pretty penny, but is wonderfully evocative and inspirational.  There are 135 color plates of his paintings showing detail of every aspect of clothing, tattooing, decoration -- you name it.

One of my buddy's used his 20% discount, so that softened the blow a bit.  However, I simply couldn't pass it up.  I encourage everyone interested in this period to put it on their birthday, Christmas, anniversary, etc., gift lists...!

It is a great reference. There is actually another volume with earlier work also. I managed to get that one from a second-hand book shop relatively cheaply. IIRC you can find the second one cheaply enough on Amazon, but the link to the publisher is here: http://www.paramountpress.com/index.html

This is surely looking fine, even though I am not much in to Indians or "native" stuff at all, especially not North American, these are still very nicely painted miniatures! Thanks for sharing :)
