Tarting up old Wild West buildings.

Like most of us I made standalone buildings.  Col O Truth's western town got me inspired to do somethign similar but I figured I wouldn't have the patience or the skill to ever finish a project like that...so, instead decided to start basing and tarting up existing structures and making a few new ones.  Sorry for the quality but I only had piss poor light and a cell camera.

These are a work in progress.  Still to do grass and some detailing.

i always wondered how common was the corrugated tin in the Old West! =)

Corrugated iron is rare, especially in residential applications in much of the old west until the end of the 19th century, but not unheard of. As towns being completely destroyed by fire were common in the era several places required tin roofs though again those were more likely to be non corrugated.

Corrugated iron was invented in the 1820s and widespread export from Britain was being done by the 1830s.  By the 1870s and 80s it was an established buildign material.  I figure if you could pre-order a kitset house, town hall and church delivered to yoru new town, you could order a few wagon loads of corrugated iron:)

I've studied photos of a lot of old Western towns, and have to admit that I've never seen corrugated tin or iron used in construction before the 1900s. Of course, that doesn't mean there might not be exceptions and you can always come up with a back story of how this particular construction came into being, if you've a mind to. Of course, since this looks so cool, I wouldn't bother explaining anything. Very nicely done!

Having built large area's of plank fencing. Corrugated Iron fencing sounds like a dream.
