The Tasimboko Raid
« on: 09 August 2011, 06:48:59 AM »
A few pics of a small battle  I ran a few months ago. A little background info. Sept 8th 1942, Col. "Red Mike"  Edson's Raider/Para unit about a battalion strong load up on small ships and make a landing east of Marine positions at Henderson Field.

To make a long story short, The Marines move to the village where the Japanese had stocked a large amount of supplies. The Japanese put up a disorganized defense, with piecemeal attacks. The Marines take what supplies they wanted and destoyed the rest. The Japanese would be sorely pressed to feed their men.

The Marines then move back to their landing craft and return the Marine positions. All this took place with over 1000 Japanese in the area but they did little. Gen. Kawaguchi considered the Japanese disgraced. More would soon be heard from him in the near future.

A little P.S. on the game. It played out much like the real battle. The Japanese could not mass their forces and attacked in small units, which were defeated with little lost to the Marines.

Great looking battle. Thanks for sharing the photos. Just so happens that this area of the South-West Pacific is my favourite.

Cheers,

Helen
Best wishes,

Thanks for the compliments. The rules I use are a homebrew set that I use for my WWII Normandy games. Just use stats for the Japanese and Marines. They are fun and give a fast game.
