16th century Japan (wargames factory)

I couldn't find a topic for 16th century samurai, so I'm putting them in here, for those who might like to use the for legend of the 5 rings games or the like

I just noticed that next to the samurai, there are now two sets of Ashigaru available
I'm not completely sold on the heads, but that might also be the painting.

The main thing that stops me from buying them is that under the new management, which seems to be doing a good job, there seems to be no more free shipping with orders over a certain size...  aah well... I'll just wait a bit, maybe it will return.

The first set is the missile armed ashigaru





The 2nd set consists of spear armed Ashigaru

They are nice but there are so many nice metal ranges where you don't have to spend hours cutting and sticking..................

well, i guess that cutting and sticking is one of the best parts for some of us.
And i have to say, that is the best set they've done so far.

But still, since i'm a skirmish lover, if i ever wanted to play a reinassance samurai game, i'd go with perry: it's as cheap as WF, and the poses are much better. :-\

Completely agree on all points. I love cutting and sticking miniatures together. Might off course just be the fumes from the glue that make me happy... but that is beside the point.

The perrys are indeed much nicer, but I also learned to like the WF and love the extra bits that I get with their sets. Also, the perry don't yet have plastic reinassance samurai, do they? I do like starting with a cheap set and then later on extend my range. $19.95 for 25 models is not that bad for a test and if for $60 I have a nice started army to experiment with, I'm completely happy.

Don't get me wrong, I have Warlord and Perry plastic kits, but the thought of cleaning and gluing a minimum of 9 parts for each figure...........

 I hope to get a few boxes of these.Northstar are stocking them in the UK.Also Dave Thomas will have them at show's.They will make building large forces much cheaper.The Perry's are nice and I have quite a few of them myself.Would be interesting to see how the scale upto each other.

Hmmm, going to be a bit picky here but they would fit better for 17th cen. The ashigaru at least. The uniform is to regular for the majority of ashigaru in the 16th cen.

Other Adventures would do just fine 

Anyway, I've got about 250+ Perrys to finish off before I think about any other manufacturers

They are some of their better offerings, but there is still a certain awkwardness to the assembled versions.

And they may be cheap, but for the added hassle of sticking them together, I'd rather go with the wonderful perry versions.

All this being said, I'd still get a few boxes purely for converting purposes (TBH, that's what most Wargames Factory sets are good for in my opinion, conversion fodder). These could be kitbashed with bits from other set to make samurai skeletons, zombies, ghouls,...

but I wouldn't trade my TAG and Perry Japanese for nothing! they are just too good

I think the missile armed Ashigaru are very wooden but the spear armed Ashigaru look quite nice, especially the command figs

I'm with you, like the perries samurai.
