How to use an Albatros DV?
« on: 11 February 2012, 05:40:25 PM »
Today I visited a toy shop that's clearing out their first floor in order to do some renovating and as luck would have it, they had a Revell Albatros DV there for very little money. How could I use this plane in a BoB or RCW setting? Any hints?

Most obvious - German Mercenaries in the employ of the local scheming Sultan/vicious Vizir/shifty Sheik. Either a pilot on his own, having squirreled his plane out of Germany via the Netherlands to escape the Allied Control Commission, or as part of a renegade Freikorps faction.

... I've spent too much time dwelling on that. Since Revell released that kit, I've been planning on painting one up, first in Black with death's heads, but now I am leaning towards a "Bollywood Flying Tiger" paint scheme as opponents for my AoI Brits.

Hey guys! Nice ideas there. I really like the look of the Turkish one but I might actually go for a Polish or German one.

Did any of these ever end up in Soviet or White hands?

Chris, would the Bollywood Tiger also pose as a German Albatros? And what would it look like?

The idea would be to paint the plane in some bright, primary colours (red and blue, probably) and then add some "Indian style" ornamentation to the wingtips and rudder. Finally, I'd like to paint a leaping tiger on the fuselage sides, again in that Indian illustration style, found in older manuscripts and revived nowadays.

Obviously, that is not really historical, but this is BOB we are talking about (cue disapproving comment from M.P. in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...), and since I prefer my adventure gaming hollywood style, why not. ;-)

On a side note, some local Indian potentates had their own private air corps, mostly Great War handmedowns (I havean article about a bunch of DH.9s, iirc, which were found a couple of years ago in a Raja's elephant shed in bits and pieces, purchases and shipped back to the UK to be able to restore one proper craft).

There's opportunity for Chinese warlord markings - As a few others have done I have an old DH2 which I will (eventually) make up in Warlord markings

Latvia.... in fact there are 2 von der Goltz, scenarios; Latvia being one and for a touch of the exotic, I don't know what they had in German East Afrika but there was fighting between Germany and the Zanzibaris/Omanis...
