SA curious
« on: May 24, 2012, 11:55:28 PM »
Hello,
Brand new member here, been on that site TMP for a while,
Been in a hobby slump for a while, but now getting excited by strange aeons, and dropzone commander.
Does SA lend itself well to solo play? The intro rules seem like just what I have been looking for in a skirmish game and many of the AAR s here by anatoli, mr. Harold, necrocannibal,et al.
Have me practically foaming at the mouth.
Waiting on the wife to let me buy the rules( sad yes I know).
I will probably use 15mm ,most of what I have is scifi, near scifi......
But as the lurkers seem very customizable, I would assume some lurkers have been started out for aliens/ khurasan space demons......
Oh well great to be here, the air already seems much fresher than on TMP....seems like a much friendlier group
Bye
Steve

Solo play does take some work and is not covered in the core rules but in the Morbid Adventures expansion, I would advise to get both when you buy. I've done two games solo just to learn the rules and fart around to have some fun. I wanted to get familiar with the rules before I start teaching others how to play.

The nice thing is the low model count you need and the game is simple with lots of culture to it in the setting. Everyone here on the forum is top notch guys and great to talk to.

I am working on a few articles now about solo play expansion on how to make it more interesting.

Welcome to the madness! SA lends itself pretty well to adaption into other eras...just change the stats/ names of the weapons and armor a bit to make them more Sci-Fi and voila, you have SA in space. Some people have done this already to let SA games take place in the Middle Ages.
You could play SA as a solo game by just following the normal rules and play the part of both the Threshold and Lurker teams...I did this for my AAR. While it's possible to play solo, you really miss the interaction and suspense/ laughs of a second player. Do it just like me (and quite a few others) and build a collection of minatures (both Threshold and Lurker) so your opponents don't need to bring any, this way you can interest more people in playing the game and maybe get them to buy and paint some miniatures for themselves...the rules are quite easy enough to learn in just a couple of games and are also easy enough for those that have never played more "complicated" games (games that have big rulebooks with lost and lots of extensive rules).

I couldnt have put it any better!

That is exactly what I did (bought all the figures etc and just invited the other chaps in my group to play).
At least three of them are getting their own Agency now, and a couple are even getting some Lurkers.
Its highly addictive, I tell ya!

Yes, I bought both rule book and morbid adventures, and I plan on using 15 mm stuff.
Am not sure on an era yet..... Possibly modern or near future......any suggestions for threshold agents in 15mm, not necessarily tied to 1920s.....may use khurasan road warriors for cultists.....they have some not fallout range of mutants, mutated 4 legged beasts....perhaps their heroes of sepulveda for threshold agents......oh well cant wait for the rules....plan on playing solo or with my son

The Scene, Rebel Minis, and Khurasan are where I get most of my 15mm stuff for It Came From Beyond the Still, and the Department games.

Men in Black, Gun Clerics, lots of Aliens.

If you have not, check out http://theminiaturespage.com/http://theminiaturespage.com/
SciFi section 15mm, lots of great examples and many first looks at new stuff

If I can ever get these rules, in PDF, I will reuse some of those figs.

But that looks like a pipe dream.

Good Luck
Lee
