Kickstarter: Tentacles and Eyeballs
« on: 29 August 2012, 09:27:22 PM »
Hi Everyone:

Dark Platypus has been working on some amazing monsters for his "Tentacles and Eyeballs" project on Kickstarter. The link is http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/806737090/tentacles-and-eyeballs-an-rpg-horror-miniatures-seI have seen the sculpts personally since Andy at Dark Platypus does all my casting for my company Hydra Miniatures.  However, I have no stake in the venture--I am just impressed by how cool these sculpts look.

In particular, the Dark Mother is menacing and huge (7" wide or 178mm).  It looks  very appropriate for Cthulhu gaming and I'll probably buy one for my Strange Aeons project. I could see it as a godling since it is so massive!

TBH, not a fan of the sculpting. Too soft and it misses that 'professional touch' I'm used to with the miniatures that I own. Love the concept for most of them though.

Yea, that is the problem with some Kickstarters, too expensive and well it is hard to get someone to consider investing. Like the Apoc project that is up, just too expensive for a game I may not get into, the figures are nice...but the value isn't there...

I don't know about that, I think the style works well on most of them, especially the Bloodkiss and Deep Mother and Aboleth.  Nice to see all three of those done suitably huge - although they are a little pricey.

If nothing else, they should be flawless castings - the ones he does for Hydra are absolute perfection, Dark Platypus could teach even GW and Reaper some lessons about moldmaking and quality control.

I quite like the bigger thingies, especially DeepMother and the Alibeth. Unfortunately their cost makes pledging for them from here in Finland prohibitive :?

$30K stretch goal for a froghemoth?  Best of luck - wouldn't mind owning one of those myself.
