Review Godslayer: Nordgaard Faction starterset
« on: November 25, 2012, 04:25:01 PM »
Hi, I just finished the review of the Godslayer Nordgaard starterset:

"Hi, welcome to yet another review! This time we will take a look at the Nordgaard faction of the new epic fantasy skirmish game called Godslayer manufactured by Megalith Games.  This epic game of good and evil is set in the rich and detailed fantasy universe named Calydorn, Godslayer is created to be a fast and tactically challenging tabletop skirmish game played with detailed metal miniatures. The skirmish game is designed for two or more players and offers a totally new gaming experience with many aspects never before seen. As a skirmish game Godslayer allows players to field a group of warriors in combat engagements. These so called warbands represent hunting parties, scouting forces, raiders or simply bands of adventurers, mercenaries, or bandits."

"The starterset arrived swift and extremely well-packed in a large cartonboard box preventing shipping damage even when thrown around during the shipping! When opening the large box, I stumbled upon the two starter sets and the ruleset (of which I will write another review later on) and was really surprised by the awesome quality of  box art design and the miniatures depicted on the box."

Great informative review, thanks. My copy of the rules arrived a couple of days ago & I have to say I'm really impressed. Both the rulebook & background book are gorgeous publications but can't comment on how it plays yet as I'm still engrossed in the background fluff. Really looking forward to your other reviews as I'm still undecided on which factions to go for. Despite their obvious appeal, I'm trying to resist the Nordgaard as I've pretty much overdosed on bearded stunties after nearly 30 years of playing them in one form or another.  The Banebrood look great so hope they'll make your review list at some point too.
...and what fresh new hell is this?

Gah! I'm trying to save money, people! Stavros, how's the fluff? Fluff is what draws me to games!

Really need to resist...

Although I can't deny that the minis look good quality and I like the style, I doubt as yet I'm likely to be buying any soon as the Reaper kickstarter is wining in it's to me in a few months time. But the rules do sound interesting and I'll be very much looking forwards to hearing more about them and how easy ornot it'd be to sandwich existing miniature collections into the game.

Stavros, how's the fluff? Fluff is what draws me to games!

The backround book runs to about 176pp & is a thing of beauty. Contains plenty of gorgeous artwork throughout & has a wealth of detailed information covering an overview of the world of Calydorn, its history, astronomy, systems of belief, the various creatures that inhabit the numerous realms plus detailed sections on each of the main factions in the game. Even if you never play the game, it's one of those sets of rules that's just nice to own. It oozes quality throughout. My only slight gripe is that the slip case that holds both the background & rule books is a bit on the flimsy side.

I still haven't had chance to delve into the rules themselves properly yet so hope it's not going to turn out to be one of those disappointing cases of style over substance  :?

As Stavros says the rulebook and especially the background book are filled with all sorts of background stories of Calydorn, the universe not to mention the amazing artwork!

@Stavros Banjo: I also hope to review them but as said the trolodytes are the first ones to follow and then some test games ( which will be played thursday using the fast play rules which are supplied with the boxed sets, just need to find an ich meaurement tape  :?)

@Dijit: I hope you will the battlereports useful.

Cheers
