An Englishman's home is his...
« on: 08 December 2012, 12:40:17 PM »
... Mighty Fortress!!

So I went along and bought a Mighty Fortress as you do - many thanks to Notts Gamer, by the way

Although now I need a new gaming table!

I've been hankering after this particular piece of Oldhammer real estate ever since seeing it in the 3rd ed. rule book. The Warhammer Siege book, which was a much later addition to my collection, didn't help either!

I didn't get round to taking a pic of the original box it came in - I was in too much of a hurry to recreate some of those scenes from the rule books - enjoy  :D

So I suppose I'd better add playing a siege game to my long To Do list...

Best get on with painting all the Orc artillery I've been amassing...

Looking good, although I have been out of the fantasy loop so long, that this is positively new school to me  :?  Nice to see a Warhammer army with mixes of figure and race, rather than the generic single type armies which seem to prevail now.

This reminds me of all the eye candy from the old White Dwarf mags from way back. Especially the pics with the orange giant.

Very cool

That painted up EXCELLENT! I had two of those languishing in their boxes until I gave them away prior to moving. Yours are VERY WELL DONE!

When it came out, "Mighty" was THE G.W. word of choice...Mighty Fortresses, Mighty Empires, ad nauseam. It has since been supplanted by "characterful".

A natural addition to your collection, sir.
In fact I am shocked that you did not already have one.
 :o

Well, you do now, and you have made great use of it too, posing up some wonderful old-school-style pics for our delectation.

Thank you!
 :D

Glad you all enjoyed the pics!

I must point out that the paint job isn't mine - the fortress came ready painted. I'll be touching it up there and lightening the grey highlights at some point though.

As mentioned elsewhere, I hope to have a play round with the siege rules some time in the New Year and bring you some real action shots.

Hi Thantsants, this is what I was talking about in my last post. When I first saw the fortress with you vintage toys, these classic images came to mind.

The images are a little small but you get the idea.

Cheers Hubbynz!

Damien - that was indeed my inspiration. If I ever lay my hands on any spare wall sections I'd like to cut tem up into breached wall sections...

Certainly agree with you there Once - I caught the tail end of 3rd ed, moved onto 4th and lost interest. Then came back to 3rd ed years later with a vengeance and have since also looked into 2nd ed - I'm beginning to get nostalgic about stuff I didn't experience first time around!  ;D
