German "cultists"

How do you envisage German "cultists" robed or in uniform?

For me, that depends on the further background.  ;)

Are the part of an 'official' project (i.e. army personal or similar)? Are they kind of a secret society? etc.

Uniformed, except for the officiating "priests", who would be robed in ceremonial outfits, at least whilst performing their diabolical rites.

I like the robed cultists for certain applications. I painted up some robed cultists with feldgrau pants and pea-dot camo sleeves showing under their robes for use in WWWII.

Those figs are over 8000 miles away so I'm not able to post a pic at this time.

Black with red on undergarments and what not for a splash of color.

depends a bit of whether You regard a robe as uniformed habitus or not and what You mean by "uniform"

I shall guess that You mean clerical or military 8)

So, whithout being a specialist in teutonic stereotypes, my guess would be that since german society used to have a draft towards military style uniforms (and maybe still has), an order of cultists might regard themselves as against the mainstream of their society and therefore favour robes or something similar that does not look militaristic.

Whatever it pleases You to do, squeezing in a monocle over a cowl might appear a bit overdressed  ;)

I intend to go somewhere in between (when I get around to it) with a German-influenced Dagon Cult for Strange Aeons.
A mix of robed Cultists and uniformed fellas in hoods.

Thanks all, for your replies. I've ordered some historical monk types to see what they turn out like and I believe the officer here is definitely reading from a dark tome, so I'll be getting him too.
