Mailing Painted Miniatures
« on: 13 October 2013, 07:06:20 PM »
I'm going to be sending a friend a miniature I painted for her birthday soon. This caused me to realize I've never mailed a painted miniature before! Any advice on getting it there scratch free and in one piece? I hear puffed rice is an ideal packing material. Any tips on that?

I always wrap them thoroughly in a foot of toilet paper, fix that with scotch tape and pack them in solid cardboard with blisterfoil around them. Never got any complaints.

I use bubble wrap and those plastic tubs that takeaways come in (I only buy them for the tubs you understand), in a conveniently sized box full of polystyrene chips.

I recycle a lot.

Figure in tissue paper, in a plastic ziploc baggie, wrapped in bubble wrap, taped into empty tuna tin or other used packaging, put inside a box full of foam packing chips.

OTT I know, but unless they drive a lorry over it, it's safe.  :D

There's only one part of the miniature that I'm really concerned about. That's where the feet are attached to the resin base. That's the only weak spot, even though one foot is pinned to the base and I used epoxy glue. I think I'll go with bubble wrapped inside a small gift box, placed into a larger, well packed box. Hopefully that should do it!

 Thanks for the replies!

Wow and I thought I was the only one using "Toilet paper" for this! lol Yep it works a treat, cheap, and easy to get off. I don't even tape as I think that makes it a bit harder to peel off on the other end. Stuff them all in a baggy, baggies separated by bubble wrap or wadded newspaper. Pack box so there is no chance of shifting or jiggling, use more paper wadded up. Never a problem. ;) Ive shipped minis from here to Timbuktu this way..... lol

Good luck,

Bill
