Star Wars Using IHMN...
« on: June 20, 2013, 12:32:26 PM »
Just an idea I'm mulling over for now. I bought In Her Majesty's Name and quite like the rules and then I started thinking (always a bad idea...), they would be perfect for doing games based on Episode IV with the main characters on one side and storm troopers, sand people etc on the other. What do you think?

Well, having just bought all the characters and a modest pile of Stormtroopers and Rebels from Episode 4, in glorious WotC bendiness, for use with my (still to build) ERLT Millennium Falcon I lucked out on last year, I'm all ears when it comes to a decent set of rules to actually use them.

Then again; I am completely unfamiliar with In Her Majesty's Name, so I can't comment on that.

I am partial to the Infinity rules though, and there is a fanmade mod out there, converted to a Star Wars setting, so that would have been my first port of call...

They're designed as V(ictorian)S(cience)F(iction), and seemingly out of genre, but the more I think about it, might well match the retro quality of the original series.

Alas, I've not read the rules that closely, but think you'd have your effort cut out for you in creating particular characters, but it is designed for role-your-own, so not necessarily daunting.

Why not check out the rules which IHMN are based on? In The Emperor's Name is a 40k based skirmish game so has the sci-fi setting and weapons

I think you'd find it fairly easy adapting the rules to fit some future war, and character creation is a doddle. I spec'd up the whole firefly crew as an IHMN company, not played it, but the process was straightforward and you can make your own "mystic" aka "force powers" using the points system.

Kept all the choice stuff, eh?
BTW, as i mentioned in another thread, but you may not have seen it, im about halfway through writing a LotR/Legends variant rule set for Star Wars with Cmdr. Vyper.

"Legends of the Force" will be coming soon....

That sounds very interesting chap, where would I find that thread?

I've still got the main characters from Episode IV as it took me ages to get them all and a few storm troopers that were excess to units of ten, I also have all the scum and villainy figures (bounty hunters, aliens, sand people etc) for my role playing games.

IHMN should work pretty well as a SW ruleset.
You may also want to consider using Strange Aeons for SW skirmishing.
That system is perfect for smaller games and very adaptable.
It is what I will be using for SW skirmish in the near future, as I think it will work better for the four-player games that I hope to get going.

Ive sent you what ive got so far on the use of the Force, as getting the stats and rules correct for Jedi, Drak Jedi & Sith to us, was THE most important thing in getting this to play right. Both Cmdr Vyper and I have been re watching the whole of the Clone Wars series to get the correct 'feel' in the game... So ANY force user should be very powerful... and hard to kill.... but in order to reflect Order 66, killed, they should be able to.

The stats for all other characters will come after we have tied this down first, as essentially they are only stats...

And we are doing 1-3 & 4-6... with 7-9, if and when....
Be good to get some more feedback....

Yup trawling the source material hasn't really been a chore ;). Season four of the clone wars has some excellent scripting and plot lines. As the good Col. said getting the flavour right re jedi/sith is the most important element to us and I think bar a few rounds of rock, paper, scissors, lizard, spock to settle a few arguments we're almost there.

We'll thread this up properly soon.

Was thinking more about how one interprets SW for balance into IHMN, as I've heard nothing complex about the system itself, but pleased you're in agreement. NOW that we colonials have received OUR Nickstarter books, we'll see if we can match effort.

As for the Legends of the Force, will be watching with interest as well!
