Playmobil Arena
« on: 13 August 2013, 03:25:45 PM »
Hoi!

Ok, you buggers got me into a new period...although I confess it did not take much coaxing...

I bought a bunch of the Crusader Gladiators as well as the set from Brigade....

Also, Hortz Mats has both gladiator mats in stock ready to ship...well two less now.

And....  I saw a bunch of people use the Playmobil arena for their games.  It's pretty expensive in most places, BUT if you live in Europe....

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000EMFAUO/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Amazon UK has it for 33 gbp!  One less now :P

I dont plan to do too much more than read some rules, paint a few Gladiators to start and use the mats.  I have 2 projects that NEED to get done, however, I find it pleasant to have a 'distraction project' going concurrently.  This helps reduce the inevitable 'burn out' when working on too much of the same thing.  So I'll keep you all posted!

Here in the US I have purchased several of these at a overstock shop called Tuesday Morning for $20 each.  They popped up on two different occasions in the past few years - that shop gets Playmobil stuff fairly regularly, but usually its the smaller sets and figures.

I picked one up, for quite a bit more money, and still feel like I got a good deal.  lol

It definitely has some potential...it's "the next big project" on my table too.

PS: This is also my distraction project, and a nicely self-contained one at that.  I am working most evenings on my PDF for another game, so it's nice to be able to paint something different and weird.

Please stop it...I have too many things going to start another project...

Mind you I do find it odd that playmobil are selling an arena...pirates yes, cowboys yes, knights yes but slaves being eaten by lions, men being forced to fight...just doesn't sit right in today's PC age...great... :D

Great minds my friend.... :)

I am intent on finishing up Zomicide Season 1 and my 20mm All Things Zombie set, which is 70% there... but in between I'll be painting fighting pairs for my Hotz mats arriving in a few days.... :)

I picked up a few sets of rules and am looking forward to Blood on the Sands!

I want to use 1" hex bases, any thoughts?  I'd prefer flat ones if I can....

Surely some laser-cut shops do them.  The good metal ones are Battletech based and are 1.25".  I use 1.25" mdf laser cut ones, and my hex mat is from Chessex with 1.5" hexes (keeps the minis from being too clustered and with spears and swinging weapons it's a bit easier that way).
