Gil-Galad
« on: 04 July 2013, 01:53:46 PM »
Hi there,
Since I needed to paint a miniature of Gil-Galad with a white cloak for a painting competition, I tried a bit of experimenting with different colours on my Gil-Galad miniature. Instead of going for the gold/blue high elf colours of the official GW miniature, I chose to go for a dark metal, inspired by the Hobbit: an unexpected journey, and red fabric. I also painted his hair blonde instead of dark brown.
Here's the finished miniature:

It turned out very well, and the colour scheme works! Nice job here!

EXCELLENT brushwork & color choices...the red in particular adds a certain something to the mini. GREAT WORK!

Since Gil-Galad actually did have blonde hair I think it's only fair to paint him that way. Just because PJ didn't look at his ancestry doesn't mean we have to ignore it...  :D

Great mini! I think it's good to break away from the official paint schemes sometimes. Nice base too. :)

Oh yeah, the white worked. It almost has a pearl look to it, which I really like. Best wishes on the competition!

Doomhippie got it - the blonde works very well. I also agree with OLeary in that your white turned out really nice - very ethereal looking. Great job and best of luck in the competition.

Very pleasing. I very much like the older, Perry-sculpted GW LotR stuff.

The white looks great! I love the shading. The coloring in the blonde hair is wonderful as well.
