Demi lich WIP, pretty much finished.
« on: 10 October 2013, 06:54:19 AM »
I started sculpting a Demi lich. I have a bunch of skulls, 36 to be exact, from ral partha so thought I would sculpt a few demiliches. I did a couple yesterday but they were only small things, then I had the brainwave of making a big one that is hovering above a withered hand. Here's the beginning.

Would it be hand that belongs to Bigby?

Great idea  :)

Here's a bit more work on the project.

For being one of the most dangerous things in the D&d universe they really are quite small, so I'm trying to make this a bit more grand. My only encounter with d&d though is computer games so I don't know too much more than that. :) the back of the hand photo hasn't turned out too well but it's got some withered(ish) texture to it.
Thanks for the comment Brummie :) perhaps it could be a spell effect working on an undead creature ;)

A little more progress. Really hard to get good photos with the iPad, maybe I'll have to pull out the old faithful digital camera lol.
Fingernails sculpted on and started on the spell effect part leading to the hand. I'm planning on sculpting some ghosty bits along the spell effect. I may even try to sculpt my own skull.

Coming along nicely. Its just what it reminded me of when I first saw it. Been playing Baldur's Gate one recently as well so it was firmly lodged in my mind :D

Baldurs gate 2 is one of my all time favourite games. I played the original first but the second one surpasses it in so many ways. I have a hankering to play it again now.

That is a VERY COOL creations. I always pictured a Demiliche as a floating skull...the ethereal hand would work well with that image. GREAT WORK!

The floating skull is the last part that will go on. I just thought a floating skull doesn't look that impressive, especially if it the big bad boss the heroes have no hope at all of defeating.
"Oh look, a skull"
"Um... Are skulls meant to have laser beams coming out of their eyeballs"
"Why aren't you answering, oh you've been severed in two by those laser beams, this may be more than just a floating skull."

Have you given the enhanced edition of bg1 a go. It has some nice extras in it, and I think you can dual wield in it as well which you couldn't originally.

I've been thinking about making a mold and casting it in clear resin. I'd take the skull off first though as it's not mine. Just a thought but I think it would look awesome in clear resin.
