Figures for French Navy during the Golden Age of Piracy

Some time ago I bought these packs from Brigade Games for French Sailors (and two Officers) from their Napoleonics range. I bought them because I love the sculpts of the sailors and I love pirate gaming. Now my question is: Would these be any good for Golden Age of Piracy games? I'm sure the officers are hopelessly out of period, but what about the sailors? Would they look out of place for French navy or pirates at ca. 1700? I don't know about about French period clothing so I hope you can help me.

Also, if I compare this to the situation of the British Navy at the time - would it make sense to enhance a crew with French soldiers for Spanish Succession, such as these from Front Rank? Or did the French navy have it's own uniform for their marines?

Any advice is much appreciated!

I think that many of these sailors would be passable. The 2 to the left though have hats that are too late for the golden age. The one on the right in the first picture looks a little too late in dress too. The 2 in the middle of the first picture & the other three in the second are just fine. Navel crew wouldn't look much different than most pirates. A little less colorful, blues & browns for vests & jackets. Stocking hats & scarves would proable be just blues & reds. Pants & shirts would be white or off white, sail cloth or canvas maybe striped duct for pants.

Me too I'm afraid. With a bit of carving and Green Stuff, I am repurposing several of them as British tars, but personally, I really can't see them as 1680's -1720's era pirates...

Agree that the Eureka Miniatures are fantastic but the the postage rates and delivery times just don't make them a viable altentaive for me.

Just order them through their UK agents, Fighting 15s. They can't do much aout the delivery times, but the postage is a lot cheaper

They look generic enough to be suitable for about anything. Is there anything particularly Portugese about these models? If anything it would probably be the hats I assume.

Oh yeah, totally forgot about those. The sculpts look "ok" at best to be honest. Are they 25mm or 28mm? More like Dixon pirates (25) or like Foundry (28)?

AFAIK eureka has postfree around the world?
