I'm back on this project and with pictures of actual miniatures  :o

Brummie was kind enough to sell me his old Havok pre-painted miniatures. Included were some very nice vehicles that will be part of my forces for the setting. For starters I've decided to give my American Union Marines some Heavy Drone Support.

After some heavy scrubbing to get rid of all the stickers; some airbrushing with several Vallejo colors and finally some washes, I've turned this:

into this:

a picture with flash:

From other angles:

Currently the drone is somewhat different:

- I've added some decals and that was a bit of a pain. It's much more difficult to work with regular model decals than with the GW ones and I ended up ripping one apart  :'( and misplacing other.
- painted and placed the missiles on the upper racks.

What I need to do:
-give it a couple more coats of Future, then some matte varnish. Maybe with a light dusting in the middle...still not sure.
-try to find a suitable flying base
-take pictures of the final result
-start working on the second drone  ;D

Nice work.  That flyer is ace.  I never knew about the Havok stuff until I saw it on here.
This is my boomstick!

Great fluff and nice work. I'm a new member so this thread is quite new to me. Great inspiration for me as I'm also working on something quite similar, using many of the same miniatures like Urban/metropolis, Void/I-kore, GW Kroots, Necromunda.

Good luck with the projekt

Cheers Michael

After exhaustively reading this thread from start to finish...

it's not an Imagi-nation, it's an Imagi-Universe

Good stuff.

@Doomsdave - it's a pity that the vehicles in the range are hard to find. I've got 3 more Banshees in the work (need to rearm them with some 1/48 weapons) and I'm planning on converting 2 of these guys:

into a tank for the Marines - big gun, auto-turrets, plus it can also transport troops (there's a hatch on the back and even seats for 6 soldiers in the back of it), I guess the Marines will love it  ;D

@Dude - first of all, welcome to the forum. I look forward to seeing your project - no miniature should go to waste, heheh. I'm planning on using some of my old I-Kore Void figures as mercenaries.

@Brummie - I still need to think how to use most of the figures but the vehicles have already been assigned to different armies ;)

@Maj Guiscard - Coming from you that's really high praise, thanks. Your blog is one of my inspirations and it's a true Imagi-Universe! Mine is still a work in progress, without even half of the miniatures/vehicles/story you have.

While I'm still waiting for some more things for my drones, I've started work on a little model:

I'm going to use the Knight as an old tech-relic that you can find in some parts of the Imperium. And the kind of thing, a nobleman/businessman from Earth would like to have just as a status symbol. Cue lots of mercenary missions to "obtain" some of these Knights from backwater worlds.

Ok, you don't get poseable legs but I don't really care. One thing is certain, the legs are really well done and can stand without any help (with extra weight on top):

With the waist glued in place:

Completely forgot to update this thread! The Knight is in the process of being painted.

Some WIP pictures:

I've magnetized the waist with a couple of magnets in the legs and a screw on the cockpit:

Made a small interior for the cockpit, with a pilot (GW Tau pilot body and GW Imperial Guard Tank Commander head) and a seat/control panel from a small 1/35 helicopter:

With the upper armor attached:

Front view:

From above, with more details glued:

For the base, I've used plaster, mixed with sand:

After it dried, I scored the hell out of it with some metal brushes, until the sand gave a nice texture to the plaster:

Then I proceeded to glue some drinking straws (aka pipes) on the original plastic base, with some pieces of spare plaster:

Glued everything together with a special mixtures of white glue; wall spackling paste and a little water

After that I decided where I wanted the Knight to stand:

Marked it:

It took some days to harden, but it's now rock solid ;)

Then I drilled some holes on the middle of the feet markings and put a long bolt and nut in each, secured with green stuff and superglue:

Same green stuff/superglue was used to secure some magnets on the feet:

This is how it stands right now:

The magnets have enough force for it to stand a casual bump on the gaming table.

Since I'm going to use it in my future Weird War 2 German force, I'm still planning on the final painting scheme. Right now its still just primed in black.
