Selling figures- strip or not?
« on: March 01, 2014, 03:29:32 AM »
I'm intending to sell my old WH40K figure (Eldar, Harelequins and Necromunda stuff), most of it dates back to the 90s and has rather 'average' paint jobs. Now the question is would people prefer to see them for sale as is or should I strip them back to bare metal before taking photos of them?

Cheers,

Pete.

I would strip them. Use acetone if they are all metal, one night in it, a quick toothbrush, and running water and they will look near new. Average or worse paint jobs just bring the price down.

Please don't show me any pictures of your 90s Eldar  lol

I used to be an avid ebayer & it made no difference to me whether they were stripped or not. After all, it's easy enough to do yourself & an old style paint job helps reassure those paranoid about recasts. Not that a LAFer would attempt to palm off recasts, of course ...

I'm still a avid ebayer and always give preference when buying on stripped or bare metal over a paint job I have to strip.
Sure stripping figures is doable but I just HATE doing it lol

Always strip them unless painting is of showcase standard.
Most buyers will end up stripping them anyway and the time and effort needed for that is usually reflected in lower bids.
Same with bases, if the figure should have slottas, make sure you supply them, having to buy/add bases is another reason to bid less on your figures.

This.

Assuming you want a higher price. Vintage models especially will sell for a lower price if they have a so-so paintjob.

I guess it depends - for me if I see an old Der Kriegspieler dwarf/goblin (smiley faced) figure I couldn't care less if it is painted.  I am too lazy to strip off old paint unless it is garish.

Gracias,

Glenn

Thanks guys- seems that the consensus is on stripping then. I'll offer them here first though- only polite.  :)
