Afghan flags 19th century ?
« on: 24 January 2014, 01:03:24 PM »
Hello,

did the Afghan army  use flags  during there various 19th century wars ?

The national flag in 1919(3rd Anglo-Afghan war) was black with a white wreath and national mosque symbol.

 Hi,

if you can find it then the following issues of "The Heliograph" can help-

vol 55 page 2 , vol 58 pages 3-4, 9-10. Uniforms  and flags of the Afghan army article.

I came to this thread late as I am seeking the same information as the OP.  I found out I can order both The Heliograph back issues by writing to Bob Burke at burker1@aol.com. I think he has most The Heliograph and Savage and Soldier back issues in fact since he compiled indices (which he'd be happy to send you via email) for both.

Cheers, Richard
