Maybe someone is interested and has a big enough gaming table to place this thing  ;)

Not personally but I'll wager there's at least one head case out there who has fielded the 1/72 version on a gaming table somewhere. IIRC there's even a 1/144 version for those with more moderate budgets and/or available space.

This is one of those things I'd like to see in a convention game project --- three or four different tables/games going on which have an affect on each other.

Table 1: Beach landing

Table 2: Commandos/paratroopers attacking the railway gun firing on the beach

Table 3: Partizans ambushing enemy reinforcements headed to the beach

etc.

As things unfold at each table, it has an affect on other tables, etc.  Allowing you to play a large theater event without having to build a 60 foot long table.  lol

I remember something like this happening at GW, having a battle over 2-3 different table...
I'd also like to see that, but unfortunately I have no storage space for a 2m long Dora  :P

The VonAbt boys have a 1/6 scale diorama with one of these. http://www.vonabt.co.uk/dios/K5_Rail_Gun/album/index.html A commando raid in 1/6 scale would be quite something to see.

There's a 1/48 version at the South African Military History Museum in Joburg. It's absolutely amazing. Every time I see it I want to offer crazy money for it so I can run pulp style commando raids on the thing.

Sadly, it's not for sale and I'm not totally sure I could afford it if it were.

I'll look for pics but technically the museum forbids the taking of photos. I still might have some.

as the construction of this monster was pointless so would any "commando raid" trying to get past the 4500 men crew or bombing raid trying to get past the AA regiment defending it be pointless. I do see the narrative delight of a "Guns of Navarone" scenario though

That would be the 40k 3rd edition armageddon campaign. They had a battle report in white dwarf with several tables.

The main table, the second table that had the white scars trying to get through and reinforce the main table, the third being catachans defending 3 basilisk artillery pieces that where shelling the main table, and the 4th was a table showing the attack of the black templars on an ork space hulk trying to silence an orbital bombardment on the main table.

Ah the days where GW was not so evil as now...

Not really, in most countries divorce is the gift that keeps on giving.
