London!
« on: 14 May 2014, 10:43:15 PM »
Recently (as in all of about nine days ago) I moved down to London with work and I was hoping someone, or lots of you, could point me in the direction of some decent wargaming shops. They seem to be fairly thin on the ground nationally but I'm hoping that the capital will have some! Or even one.

Also, I contacted the South London Warlords Club regarding their end of month participation game and have yet to hear back. Just wondering if anyone on here is connected to the club and can tell me if it's likely to go ahead with the last Monday of this month being a bank holiday?

All help and advice appreciated and if this is the wrong board feel free to move it! Thanks

With regards to shops, the only two I can think of are:

Orcs Nest

Dark Sphere

So many projects..... so little time.......

There is also leisure games.

Never, ever, be tempted to drive or cycle on London roads.

I know that's not the advice you were after, but what you were asking for won't keep you alive.

The first two are pretty handy, the latter is regrettably miles from home and work. Thanks for the advice Cubs, I did briefly toy with the idea of cycling before I got down here. Having seen the routes I am definitely happy on the tube (well not happy exactly but you know)

Cycling is okay on non major roads IF you are a good cyclist. driving i don't see the point of, especially in central london, when you consider just how well connected the city is.

Orcs nest is good.my brother in law once found a shop (no idea where) in london where the owner didn't have what he wanted in stock ,so he closed the shop for an hour, went home, picked up his personal copy of the book, and met up with my brother in law at a tube station later on to sell him it.

how long will you be in london? I'm moving to uni in September and am hoping to build a gaming group.

Indefinitely! Well, if I like it I will be here indefinitely, we shall see I suppose. I haven't ridden a bike in a good five years and don't drive at all. Pretty content with the tube.

Also looking for a decent pub quiz venue if anyone has any recommendations!

There is a slightly dated thread on TMP discussing the same...
