Earlier this week, my lady friend and I were watching "Miss Congeniality" (movie with Sandra Bullock) on tv. In of the scenes the contestants in the Miss US election (I believe) are parading in
front of a band playing in front of the Alamo. Naturally, I exclaimed: "WOW! look, the Alamo!!!". My partner (very much into music, I'm not...) was impressed and said: "I'm surprised, how do
you know the name of that band?...".
Alright, the next ten minutes or so saw me explaining what the Alamo really was...
So the next night we were watching tv again, and (you won't believe this, but I swear it's true) and there was a preview of tonight's showing: napoleonic uniforms, Santa Anna about to take a young woman against her will, and Travis whispering "they ain't coming" (but Santa Anna ws, IMHO...), so I
asked her: "what's this?". Naturally, she didn't know, but 5 seconds later the screen showed "the Alamo, view it here fridaynight".
Now I'm off to TSA tonight and she's still working at the time the film starts, but she won't escape: I've got DVD's of both the newest and the John Wayne version ànd a 28mm model of the Alamo!
She doesn't know yet, but one of these days it won't be a trip to the mall, but a REAL treat (pity I haven't got the armies yet...).
So, there seems to be a fair chance I'll be single again soon...
