Multiple Wounds for Ronin
« on: 05 June 2014, 01:59:40 PM »
I want to use Ronin for some heroic fantasy games, including magic. One option I am considering is multiple wounds for the Heroes (ie. the Player Characters).

Basically, the heroes are assumed to be Conan, Red Sonya or Sinbad types, and so all have the "Tough" attribute allowing them to ignore Light Wounds. Tough only allows a single LW to be ignored, so models with the "Heroic" attribute are treated a little differently. (This is inspired by the rule for Sergeants in the Pony Wars rules). Heroes can sustain and ignore multiple light wounds but the exact number is not known. Each time a LW is taken a D6 is rolled and if the roll is equal or greater to the numebr of LWs taken then the wound is ignored. A roll of '6' always allows the wound to be ignored. So the first LW is ignored automatically, the second on a roll of 2+, and so on.

That doesn't sound to bad but have you considered the Hard-to-Kill attribute? Written by the author for the Oni and available in the creatures list here: http://www.ospreypublishing.com/articles/osprey_wargames_resources

I did try that but that only adds a single extra light wound IIRC.

I was thinking that with the system proposed above that grievous wounds would count as normal, if scored - but not through accumulated LWs unless the roll was failed. Assuming the roll failed, and the accumulated LWs were enough to cause a GW then a GW would be caused. And the next wound would be mortal regardless of type and w/o any LW test.

Or would GW also get a roll to ignore? Perhaps on a D3, with the same requirement of rolling equal or higher than the current number...?

There are a number of ways one can do things...I just thought the Hard-to-Kill didn't add enough.
