At the risk of showing some ignorance/Warlord Petard team
« on: 18 June 2014, 12:37:28 AM »
I was packing away some miniatures for my big move, and when I got to my copy of Warlord Games' petard team, I noticed that several had some dark spots. Now: I'm trying to convince myself that this is mere tarnish, but does white metal tarnish? Could this be some sort of rot?
It's nothing, sir. Just a burn from a ray gun.

"It's the black spot, Jim!"

PS: No idea.

It does not really look like it...Is it perhaps just some muck caused by the mould release agent?

They do some really nice miniatures but Warlord stuff does have some um, interesting results from/on their casts  :?

Lead rot makes the miniature go crumbly, I believe.

Try cleaning it? (TMP suggests a dip in white vinegar) or even gently filing it I guess...

I have read that the killer thing for getting lead rot is if you store your miniatures in wooden boxes...so if you are doing that, stop it!

Good luck :)

If you do clean in vinegar remember to rinse thoroughly. I've had bad cases of lead rot on older minis but very rare on the new alloys used these days. Worst case I had was a box of 15mm Citadel Traveller minis I picked up from a boot sale....only £5 so I glanced at the minis and brought it home...when I took the minis out the were all far beyond saving and it was the first case on minicide I ever committed but they all went in the bin. Fortunatley I had good casts of them all and it was the box that I was mainly after anyway so they are all replaced (in individual zip lock bags) in the box.

Thanks all. Quite hoping it's just tarnish...Will try the vinegar after I settle in.

Could also just be a bit of debris in the metal I suppose?

A quick pass with a brass brush will polish it right off too, provided its just some tarnish...
