Would you consider buying an alpha or beta version of a rulebook, for say £5, of a game that was in development if it meant you got money off of the final book?

Poll: would you buy an early version set of rules?
« on: June 27, 2014, 08:58:12 AM »
Hi all

Whilst we're working away on getting the rules developed for Firelocks, I've been wondering if anyone would be interested in purchasing an early version of the rules in exchange for a discount, equal to the early version purchase price or possibly more, on the final set of rules.

The early purchase price would be fairly low, say between £2 and £5 depending on how far in the development the game is.

I'm thinking that if someone purchases an early version then when an updated version of the test rules are released you will receive a copy of the updated ones as well.

I'd like to know what people think of this idea.

Thanks for your time.

Depends.

If it was an early print version, a simple thing like DBA was, then yes. That type of simple, easy to use rules system is appealing.

However, I also confess to liking beautifully produced final versions...

I see no reason why not. I am tempted to make the obvious joke about "isnt this what 6th edition 40k was?" But that would be too easy   ;)

Seriously if someone is developing rules and there is an early version that seems fine. I think what is important is to be clear about how evolved the rules are.

Give me early draft sketches instead of finishedartwork if you like especially as that would make it different and unique to the final version.
