Resurrecting my Middle Earth Project
« on: 16 July 2014, 09:01:05 PM »
OK, so, 18 months after abandoning ship on this due to a whole host of factors, notably 'painting burn-out', I have finally got back into this project.

Here are the models I did back in 2012-13 to refresh the memory of anyone who followed my long-dead thread on this back then...

...And here is a pic of the first new model, just painted! I have 5 more on the table awaiting highlights!

I'm really enjoying getting back into this! Hopefully it won't be another 18 months before I get any more of 'em done!! ::)

I'll keep an eye on this - I have high expectations, though! lol
Measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, cut with an axe, hammer to fit, paint to match!

Nice painting!

The big gem is a bit too 'warhamsteresque' for my taste, but very well done.
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Thanks...the gem was added to break up the shield and add a splash of 'bling' to the army, as it's a very subdued colour scheme (@James - the blue cloak is Foundry Night Sky Light. The shield, waist sash and helmet plume are Foundry Storm Blue light - the best colours to use when using Army Painter Strong Tone over blue, IMHO).
I agree the gem is very Warhammer-esque though! Luckily, the fact that only the spearmen models will have one means it shouldn't be too much overkill in the whole force (crosses fingers and hopes for the best!)

The whole figure looks great, but that border detail at the bottom of the cape is damn impressive.  :)
Glad to see the painting burn-out wasn't permanent. I look forward to seeing more.

Good colour scheme you selected there and the gem and free hand are very well done.

Thank you.  :) I'll let you into a secret - that 'freehand' is actually really easy to do, as it's actually no more than random criss-cross 'flicks' of paint,  painted between the parallel lines. There is no specific pattern to it. The trick is to keep the paint fairly diluted so it flows without pooling...

Very nice. I like those elves. Shield looks good to me, big gem and all.

I think i used to have that eagle. Did it come with a wood elf archer riding it?
