Looking for a 28mm desert crawler vehicle
« on: 05 September 2014, 10:46:57 AM »
Can anyone suggest a suitable vehicle for a sci-fi desert crawler? I'm thinking something in the vein of the Jawa sand crawler from Star Wars - a big blocky mass on tracks or perhaps raised up on balloon wheels. Ideally it should be of a decent size - at least 20cm in length.

I'm struggling to find 'the one' and am open to suggestions on 28mm models, tank kits or toys.

Thanks!

These days Daemonscape and Ramshackle are my first stops for things like that.

Daemonscape

Ramshackle Games

Its worth noting that the components from the Ramshackle models are all available separately and are generally pretty modular, so its quite simple to add the cab from one model to the flatbed of the next or whatever.

The background to the Ash Nomads goes out of its way to state that most of them travel exclusively on foot, but the temptation to give the a ride is too much to resist isnt it?  Its too good an opportunity :)

They're excellent options cheetor and I've been looking pretty intently at offerings from both, but I'm looking for something with a bit more mass/bulk if you know what I mean?

Daemonscape in particular is the right sort of style, but I see them as being escorts rather than the big crawler itself which should be a great hulking thing.

How about a "Soldier Force" Steel Badger.

I missed out on one of these on ebay a few years back, and it isa bit pricey, but I think it's ideal for a Sandcrawler type vehicle

Waiter, my soup is giggling.

Daemonscape does this too:

Maybe build up the main hull to be taller?

Or two or three to form a land train?  lol

I'd be tempted to pick up some Rammshackle tracks and scratchbuild the hull.

I think that toys like the soldier force playset would be the best bet.  If you're here in the USA, Toys R Us usually has quite alot of generic GIJoe size tanks and playsets that might be useful.
