Have you looked at Galloping Major?
He has some very characterful figures - the Provincials are splendid fellows.

Thanks for mentioning my chaps for this role fastolfrus, I had been thinking that they would do the job nicely, but then, I am biased  :D

Manatic: take a look at the ones appearing on this thread on here, then picture them in red & white  :)

I'm starting to be quite partial to those! Any chance of getting a sample miniature to see how they fit in with my Foundry and Black Scorpion stuff, or are comparison pictures available somewhere? The upcoming(?) sailors had me drooling :D

Buy them, you won't be disappointed.  :)

They are on the larger side and nice chunky sculpts, so should be quite compatible with the BS sculpts and later Foundry C18th stuff.

I use mostly Foundry pirates for my guys.
I have found that Dixon Grand Alliance figures work well for the other side.
Great for the 1680's 1690's era.

Lance, have you and Nick traded shares in Boot Hill and Galloping Major? ;)

(They are indeed very nice figures... Really must finish painting the 10 or so militiamen I've had half-done on a shelf for a couple of years...  ::))

Those are nice as well, but I'm not too fond of the gnome hats :D

In other news, I got my hands on some Galloping Major minis, and I think I'll go with those - thanks for all the recommendations!
