I have stated this before, I think, but it's worth repeating.

Old Glory are so variable and unreliable in their quality that even though they still have lots of stuff I would be interested in buying, I have resolved never to order anything from the website again.

If I want something, I'll wait till I'm at a show, where I can see what I'm buying. I got a stack of Wars of the Roses stuff at this year's York show, and it is fine. I stood there with it in my hand, examined the packs, and asked them to give me a different one if there was a noticeable amount of miscasts. And they were happy to do it too, very friendly people.

Conversely, a big web order of Darkest Africa stuff that I got for my birthday has lain mostly untouched because it is just too depressing to look at. Out of the whole pack of 30 or so bearers, I think I could find two that were useable without major reconstruction. The other packs were better, but I would estimate a good two thirds of the stuff was just awful.

In short then (sorry for ranting), unless you can see it before you buy it, go with Artizan because you'll never be disappointed.

Just a thought, but the OG-UK blokes don't cast their own stock do they? Am I right in thinking its all shipped over from the US, so they have no control over the quality?

I will echo JB look at the figures in the flesh, their Wars of Religion range is nice but their Boer war and Thracians I have bought have been dire. I thin you are right in that they import the product as seen, it tends to show when they have nil stock as a retailer with a casting machine should not really run out of figures.

JB is right, OG UK just order it from the US, they have no control at all over the casting quality.

He is also right that the quality varies greatly. Saying all OG is shit is like saying all dogs are vicious. Some is dire and some (particularly the new 2nd edition stuff) is on a par with the best currently available. It is best to see it in person when possible and judge for yourself.

Disclaimer: I occasionally help them out at shows and have quite a bit of their better stuff (as well as some of the real dogs).

Thanks for all the feedback chaps.

I think I'll buy at a show where I can see what I'm getting rather than ordering blind from an unillustrated website. That's what bugs me about OG or any other company in similar situation: you have a web site to sell things, and then you don't have pictures of your goods but you expect to people to buy?

Back to Artizan, and eBay for Foundry then...

I forgot to mention it, but the others are right about the packs you mentioned. They are mostly good, but too small (IMO) to mix with Artizan. I don't even like to mix them with my West Wind Cowboys and the WW are probably a tad smaller than Artizan on average.

Hi

I got a pack of the mounted Mexican Banditos #1 and they are nice (but not as nice as Artizan but they fit well together). They use the same horses across all their ranges so you can change them if you dont like them (I never bothered).

Like all Old Glory they need a lot more cleaning that Artizan or Foundry.

I like that you get the same figure mounted and dismounted

Cheers
Kieran
