Expanded Bestiary?
« on: 22 September 2015, 10:59:57 PM »
Are there plans to expand the Bestiary in the upcoming expansions? Or has someone homebrewed some "common" fantasy beasts.

I'd like to :
1.) Use as much as I can from my existing miniature stocks.
2.) Have some more powerful critters for upper level encounters.

I know we can do some "counts as" in our campaigns, but would love to see a Frostgrave Monster Manual I, II, and III...

I'd be curious about this too.  There are certain bestiary animals that I planned on subbing out for other ones that I actually had in my collection.

As has been said before, the beauty of Frostgrave is its so open, so I'd be inclined to make up my own stats to suit the figures.
There might be an issue with the limited stats available ie Move, Fight, Shoot, Armour and Health so getting enough variation to make a kobold different to a goblin might be tricky.
Having said that some house rules will help and also letting creatures have 'built in' spells could give you that variety.

I've been considering specific demon types myself to make them a bit more interesting, for example a Succubus would be as a normal minor demon for stats but would have an automatic  Beauty spell in place with a cast roll of say 14 (based on the spell cast + the demon's will of 4)

Thinking about Kobolds and the fact they are reknown for the skills at ambush you might let them roll for fast act at the start of each turn needing an 11+, if they pass they get to go first?

Just thinking out loud, not tried any of this.

There is more coming in both of the expansions. However, just about anything could be running around the Frozen City, so if you have a mini you want to use, it's probably worth making up some homebrew rules for it!

Hello Joseph! First, congrats for this very good game! In your opinion, and without spoiling the expansions, what kind of monsters could fit (or not) in the general ambiance of Frostgrave?

Well, the Beastcrafters (we'll learn more about them later...) were famous for producing all kinds of strange creatures down in the breeding pits, so there is almost nothing that couldn't appear at least as a one-off monster. They were especially found of mixing different animal types together to form strange hybrids...

Who was it that produced a book (in the days of Dungeons & Dragons) called 'All the worlds Monsters' then followed it a few months later with 'All the worlds Monsters Volume 2'
