Arc of light
« on: 13 October 2015, 07:56:51 AM »
Hello,

I have been looking for a lighting solution for my gaming table but kept finding that lamps were meaning I had to sit in a certain way or left me with shadows. I needed something that gave me loads of light spread around.

I saw this guy had built an LED strip that went over his painting table. I figured I could do the same. Here it is.

It was pretty simple to build and cost £20 in total and I still have 3 meters left of LED strip.

I hope it might be useful to other modellers.

indeed. A nifty contraption.
One question though : don't you get blinded by all those LEDs in front of you?
(I'd probably create some strip on the front of the arc to avoid that)

Hi Zizi666

The Arc goes over your head, so the light comes down (you aren't looking at any of the LEDs) and around you.
It is very bright so don't look quickly from side to side.

So far it is working out fairly well, but it is Arc of Light MkI, so some improvements may come at a later date!

Thank you

Stephen

That is great! Would you care to elaborate on how you made it?

I might invest the time to make one in the near future.

Hi Irishvince,

Basically you need to but LED strip lights (I went to Amazon) a transformer and a curtain track.

Attach curtain track to desk (I had about three near misses with a power drill and fingers)

The strip has sticky tape on the back, stick to curtain rail (I did this on a flat surface then did final fix to desk)

Mission complete

My blog has a few more pictures on if that helps further (cheeky self promo)
