Never did tackle that technique for wood grain in the rifle though... It looks brilliant.
Top marks for the highlights on the pants and gold cord - that´s what caught my eye first

PS.: What is that white bit on his hand (the one holding the rifle barrel)?

Try pack STD1, there are two useable standard bearers in there, and you could paint the bugler with a Falange blue shirt, or do the same as Lt did, and swap the head for one with a Gorillo cap.
Or, use the Bugler from the Foreign legion command pack (LEG3)

As Nigel said. The STD1 pack is more useable I think. And the Foreign Legion trumpeter has a beard, I´m not sure if many falangistas had beards?
Torradas: The white bit is a little strip from one cypress tree with some ivory paint on it (now cut down). I paint the wood grain like this: VGC Charred Brown over black undercoat. Then stripes with VGC Beasty Brown (it´s good when your hand is trembling a bit, gives a more realistic grain  ) and highlight this stripes with VGC Filthy Brown. That´s it.
