Painting Blood Dawn dwarves
« on: November 08, 2015, 07:21:22 AM »
Hello all.
Here is a little request. I've been painting 25-28 mm minis in the past and it's been a long time without painting at all. As I am starting anew on 15-18 mm. I need advice on painting my dwarves. What's the best way to have a nice result for a SoBH dwarven warband ? What technique you think is best ? A little guide would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Ok, this is how I paint 15mm:

1. Grey Undercoat
2. Block colours (paint flesh, clothes, weapons, etc.)
3. Wash with suitable wash (Strong Tone Wash is a favourite, but GW washes are okay)
4. Highlight with original block colours.
5. Second highlight with some lighter colour added.

15mm painting works best with bright colours and more extreme highlights.

Here's an example of a 15 mm sci fi model I painted with the same formula:

It's Vallejo Electric Blue on grey undercoat, followed by blue/green wash, highlight with Vallejo Electric Blue and a second highlight with a little white added.
Face is Elf Flesh, washed with Reiklander flesh, highlight with Elf Flesh and then Elf Flesh + Bone White. Finally a very small amount of red wash on the lips.
Hair is done by painting Royal Purple, purple wash, drybrush Royal Purple and then drybrush Royal Purple with a bit of white in it.
White armour/gun were painted light grey, highlighted with white, washed with Vallejo Pale Grey Wash, final highlight of white.
Base is painted grey, washed with Nuln Oil, drybrushed grey and grey + white, washed in spots with Soft Tone Wash.

Hope this can be of help!
