The Army of the United Provinces 1660 - 1687
« on: 03 April 2019, 12:23:43 PM »
Got my copy of Helion's WARS AND SOLDIERS IN THE EARLY REIGN OF LOUIS XIV. VOLUME 1 - THE ARMY OF THE UNITED PROVINCES OF THE NETHERLANDS, 1660-1687 from NorthStar a few days ago and so far and really impressed.

A must have if you are planning to field a Dutch army of the period.

I got a copy from North Star a couple of weeks ago and it is well worth your while (and money). As is frequently the case with Helion titles, it could have used a bit more editing : the author is not an English native speaker and this occasionally shows despite his excellent command of the language : more editorial care would have wrinkled out those sentences which aren't too idiomatic (yes, that's probably nitpicking on my part but I'm sensitive to these things). This quibble aside, it's a hefty and useful tome which nicely complements the Robert Hall CD on the post 1685 Dutch army.

Ah, but Arthur, you are that rare animal - a Frenchman who not only can speak and write perfect English, but who is happy to do so in public!

I agree I have,nt got this book yet ,but I have noticed this problem in The Cretan war and William III's Italian Ally it is a little annoying but is a small price to pay for the amount of information you get in these books
