'Holy War!' - Players Briefs, Part 2
« on: 22 November 2008, 08:58:15 PM »
Holy War!                  Count Meehan Forteanskonz’s brief

You are Count Meehan Forteanskonz, scion of a minor Irish-Russian family.  Through a process of natural selection (all the other White Commanders are either dead, insane, or living it up in Monte Carlo), you have been anointed as the White causes last hope to recover Mother Russia from the depredations of the Red scourge that has descended like an eternal darkness on the sacred soil of your birth.

Yours is a small but highly motivated force.  You are helped (?) by the fact that the Czar has joined your cause.  He will help unify your force with the local White militia of Mad Nicolai Bobovsky.  He is nothing more than a bandit solely interested in loot and rapine. However the presence of the Czar might make him do at least some of your bidding.

You will need not only Bobovsky, but also the help of the local British presence, under the South African, Cornelius Brandt, if you are to succeed.  Although he is officially in the employ of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company, it is well known that this is front for British Intelligence.  He may need some persuasion to openly join your crusade however.  It is known that he has some useful ‘assets’ under his command in the oilfields.

Your objectives                     victory points

10.   Destroy Red Ted’s Army                    1500pts
11.   Capture Krasnovodsk                    500pts
12.   Capture the port complex                    500pts
13.   Get Cornelius Brandt as an ally                 250pts
14.   Kill Red Ted                                 250pts
15.   For every Red or Adrianstani/German unit destroyed                     150pts
16.   For every 10% losses from your force                         - 150pts
17.   For every British unit lost                    - 200pts

Forces under your Command  (n.b. optional vodka rule applies)
Count Meehan Forteanskonz: +2 officer
2 I.C.: Leankorsky, +1officer
The Czar: moves and shoots like an ordinary infantryman, but never fights: if contacted hand-to-hand he will automatically become a martyr. Up to two units per turn which have any figures within 12” of the Czar may cancel one morale test each which they would otherwise have to take.

3 x 10 Shock troops   (Markilov, Samursky and Kornilov Regts),
Ferocious, with bombs. 1 LMG and light mortar per unit                               T3 M5

1 x British Whippet tank, 1 MG                  T5 M4
1 x British Ford machine gun carrier, 1 MG                         T5 M4
1 x British staff officer (+1).  Commands British only

Intelligence

1.   Emir Bin Gun Loafin is a corrupt eastern despot of the worst kind.  Slavery, corruption and moral degeneracy (and worse!) are the norm in Krasnovodsk.  His forces are weak and ill-disciplined, and equipped with outdated weaponry and equipment.  There is however a small White underground in Krasnovodsk.  You may therefore be able to ignite trouble in the city.
2.   He has a lot of loot salted away in the city
3.   Red Ted has a strong force, with significant off-table artillery assets.
4.   There are rumours of a French military mission in the city, under Lt. Draylon, sometime ADC of Count Pierre Smirnoff, the White general.
5.   The Adrianstanis are attacking from the east.  They are well motivated and equipped, as are their German allies.  The presence of Kasredin is significant.
6.   Mad Nicolai Bobovsky holds sway in the local countryside.  He cares little for the White cause, and sees it only as a licence to rape and pillage.  You know he covets the wealth of Bin Gun Loafin.  It will be interesting to see if the presence of even the Czar will make any difference.  You can order him to do your bidding five times in the game, which he has to comply with.  However it may be better to play to his weaknesses.
7.   Von Stauffenberg has a small, but well equipped and technologically advanced force.  He keeps a low profile within the Adrianstani camp, but you have no doubt he is pulling the strings.

Holy War!                        Mad Bobovsky’s brief

You are Mad Nicolai Bobovsky, local warlord, bandit chief and White mafia supremo.
You have had a nice little earner going in the region until international geo-politics arrived in the guise of the major armies of Reds, Adrianstanis and – most inconveniently of all – the Whites, with the Czar in tow, arrived in the region.
You will have to cooperate with the Whites as long as the Czar lives, but this should always be a secondary consideration to your primary objectives – filling your boots!
Your main objective is the central bank in Krasnavodsk.  It is stuffed full of gold bullion (think Kelly’s heroes) and it has your name on it.  This is also where the Emerald Koran is kept when not in use at Friday prayers in the central Mosque.
The rest of your objectives are self evident.  However you will need significant help to get what you want as the major powers around you are very strong compared to you.  You will therefore need to get dealing, preferably in advance of the weekend!
Your objectives                     victory points
1.   Loot the central bank in Krasnovodsk              1000pts
2.   Capture the Beluga caviar stocks in the port area        500pts
3.   Steal the Emerald Koran                      500pts
4.   Capture the French military mission supplies           500pts
5.   Loot the Anglo-Persian oil site                 500pts
6.   For every enemy unit destroyed                 150pts
7.   For every 10% losses from your force              - 150pts
Forces under your Command  (n.b. optional vodka rule applies)
Mad Nicolai Bobovsky: +2 officer (heroic leader – moves and fights as a cavalryman with a rifle, but adds +3 to all melee throws. Receives a saving throw of 3 or better against all hits from shooting.  All units which see him killed take a morale throw if within 18” at the time)
2 I.C.: Markov +1officer (heroic leader – as above)
The Czar (under Count Forteanskonz’s command): moves and shoots like an ordinary infantryman, but never fights: if contacted hand-to-hand he will automatically become a martyr. Up to two units per turn which have any figures within 12” of the Czar may cancel one morale test each which they would otherwise have to take.
1 x 10 bodyguard troops, ferocious, with bombs, 2 LMGs       T3 M5

2 x 15 irregular infantry units, with bombs             M4

1 x 10 Austro-Hungarian POWs, with bombs, 1 LMG         T4 M4

2 x snipers                           T4 M4
2 x 15 Khirgiz/Mongol irregular cavalry units, single shot rifles   M4
1 x A7V German surplus tank.  1 field gun and 3 MG’s.
Breaks down on a 10,11 or 12                  T3 M4

1 x HMG, horse drawn                     T3 M4

Intelligence

1.   Emir Bin Gun Loafin is a corrupt eastern despot of the worst kind.  Slavery, corruption and moral degeneracy (and worse!) are the norm in Krasnovodsk.  He is therefore a man after your own heart! His forces are weak and ill-disciplined, and equipped with outdated weaponry and equipment. You have contact with him
2.   Red Ted has a very strong force, with significant off-table artillery assets.
3.   Count Meehan Forteanskonz is also strong, and has British allies with him.
4.   The French military mission in the city is commanded by Lt. Draylon, sometime ADC of Count Pierre Smirnoff, the White general.
5.   The Adrianstanis are attacking from the east.  They are well motivated and equipped, as are their German allies.  The presence of Kasredin is significant.
6.   Von Stauffenberg has a small, but well equipped and technologically advanced force.  He keeps a low profile within the Adrianstani camp, but you have no doubt he is pulling the strings.
7.   The Anglo-Persian oil company, under Cornelius Brandt, has a small well trained and equipped force.  You have contact with him

Holy War!                           Red Ted’s brief
You are Red Ted, victorious Liberator of Tashkent, Peoples poet, etc, etc.  Having thrown off your early life as an armed uniformed lavatory attendant in Imperial Service, you now realise that you are a man of destiny.  A new Napoleon, destined to free the Russian peoples from the Capitalist yoke of servitude and ignorance.
You are more importantly a man with a mission. The recent campaign at Zhwingwee was not your finest hour.  Large numbers of communist heroes were wasted in futile attacks on the walls of this Chinese hell hole.  Much of this was – fortunately for you -  was put down to your terrible physical (and mental) wounds for the dastardly assassination attempt on you in Tashkent several years ago.
Your mission is therefore threefold:
1)   Destroy Adrian Enver Pasha and his Adrianstani fundamentalists.  If you succeed this will be put you back into the premier echelon of Bolshevik heroes, and – just as importantly – put V.I. Blackwood back in his (hopefully wooden) box.  You have a fondness for Central Asia, and a track record of success.  Victory in this campaign will make you the Bolshevik champion in the region, and secure for the Peoples Soviet, through ownership of the strategically vital oil fieldsi, the means of production not only for Bolshevik Russia, but also as the springboard of world revolution!  Failure however would in all probability be terminal.
2)   Capture (and preferably) kill Czar Nicholas II.  He is now a marginal figure, like a Louis XVIII in the shadows of Lenin’s Napoleon.  Most of the Russian people have moved on and are happy to be rid of him and what he stood for.  However, he must be eliminated before he can gain a momentum with the peasant classes.  Cut off the head of the infant serpent before it can breed a new black brood.
3)   Capture the Anglo-Persian oil complex.  It is well known that the Anglo-Persian Oil company is a proxy for British intelligence.  Removing them, and in particular their head of station, Richard Hannay, would help matters along well.
Your army is the rather battered remnants of the Zhwingwee debacle, augmented by some of the Bolshevik army’s newest technical units.  It should be sufficient, though you will be heavily outnumbered by a combined Adrianstani and White force.

Your objectives                     victory points
1.   Destroy the combined Adrianstani and German army        1000 pts
2.   Capture or kill the Czar                    1000pts
3.   Capture the port complex                    500pts
4.   Destroy the White Army                    500pts
5.   Capture the Anglo-Persian oil complex                    250pts
6.   Kill Richard Hannay                       250pts
7.   For every 10% losses from your force              -150pts
Forces under your Command
Red Ted: +2 officer
2 I.C.: Your brother Davidoff , +1officer
3 x commissars
10 Cheka, stubborn with bombs, 1 LMG, 1 light mortar      T3 M5
10 Red sailors, 1 LMG, stubborn                  T5 M4
10 Siberian Rifles, marksmen with bombs, 1 LMG, 1 light mortar   T5 M4
3 x 10 Red Guards, irregulars                  M3
5 x 10 Red Army regulars, with bombs, 1 LMG            T2 M3

4 x HMG’s, all towed                     T2 M4
3 x field guns   , all towed                     T3 M4
1 x off-table artillery battery. 8 rounds of HE. Tactical rating 2.
First four rounds must be pre-planned before the game.  Every other
round must be pre-planned two moves in advance, from move three on.

1 x Bussing Nag armoured car, 1 x MG               T3 M4
1 x Mk V tank, 2 field guns, 2 MG’s               T3 M4

3 x boats/barges, each with an old style field gun. Capable of
carrying a (non-armoured) unit each               T3 M3

You doubt it.  His is a typical White bandit force
6.   Not much is known about Count Meehan Forteanskonz, other than he was a very competent White Divisional general.  His force is small, but well motivated, trained and equipped.
Von Stauffenberg has a small, but well equipped and technologically advanced force.  He keeps a low profile within the Adrianstani camp, but you have no doubt he is pulling the strings
