This might be to interest to some of you, someone who made rules to play the battle of Hoth, complete with AT-ATs, snowspeeders, infantry etc
https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/105371-dont-hassle-the-hoth/

as for the initiative issue, whichever side has the least squad points can decide who has initiative, so it's not weird to see people field 96 point squads (or less) in 100 point games just to ensure they can choose who has initiative, this goes especially if you field arc dodging aces. having or not having initiative can be quite important for certain pilots, e.g. Soontir Fell doesn't want initiative so he can make sure he moves last and can boost/barrel roll out of arc, making sure no one has a shot at him, on the other hand someone like whisper in a TIE phantom with an advanced cloaking device wants initiative, so he can shoot first then get his free cloak (and a +2 agility) before other people start shooting at him

I hope I'm not repeating an already-answered question which I missed - I've seen clear X-wing type bases for sale which are red, blue etc. - is there any significance to this other than denoting opposing models in a game?

Nope the colour means nothing in particular, they're just coloured cause it looks pretty. Of course I've already seen people field differnt bases to make it easier to distinguish between different pilots in the same ship

Thanks Mr Tough Guy - nice not to have to worry about these then.

I had a game of X-wing over the weekend; how hard is the Millennium Falcon to take down?! It had Han Solo piloting and Chewbacca and R2D2 as crew and despite taking 2 points of hull damage from Vader's TIE Advanced early on, the Wookie fixed it!

Nevermind, the actual question was whether anyone had purchased the new releases and what they thought of them? Ghost in particular looks like a cracking model with some decent cards.

"Don't worry, she'll hold together!"  :D

Chewie as the pilot is even tougher - you basically ignore crits altogether. Keep in mind that the Chewie crew card is one use only, and the R2 crew has the possibility of doing more damage.

The Ghost model is amazing, and it's HUGE! Absolutely dwarfs the Falcon (as it should, to scale). The Phantom is great too. Super detail and good paint job IMO. One minor quibble is that they didn't make the shuttle in the back of the ghost model removable/dockable, but of course it's meant as a "model" and not as a "toy" (whatever that means  ;D ). Looks like it won't be too hard to convert it that way, but I'm having a hard time finding all the right places to crack, and I haven't found any pics online of someone who's done it already.

Gamewise it has lots of cool cards, and the best thing to me is that they've got all the Rebels characters there in the pack already, as both a Crew card AND a pilot of one of the ships (and all 3 for Hera). Plus, the thing is expensive enough (points wise) that you could easily make up a little force of 75+ points without even "loading" the upgrades, so this would be perfect for some thematic missions, etc.

Inquisitor TIE is similarly good model, the Inquisitor himself is shaping up to be quite a good hero/ace pilot to use, and comes with some interesting upgrades (e.g. tracers and Guidance Chips).

Misthunter is a cool ship, mostly because I like it in the sense of oddball side character(s), and Zuckuss/4-LOM have some interesting potential as pilot/crew combos. One big disappointment for me is that it only came with one Tractor Beam card, when the original preview showed it would have two. I am increasingly miffed about FFG being stingy with the cards, and this one hits a sensitive spot, because I was really looking forward to some all-Tractor lists. Because watching TIEs explode on asteroids makes me happy in a way that's almost embarassing.

I didn't get Dengar, but I hear his pack is also a great one, and there is much excited grumbling about his contribution to "the meta", for what that's worth.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking for an extra nudge to get the Ghost and that was it. I've found it for what seems like a decent price (including postage) and I've had it in and out of the online basket numerous times.

Some of the cards do seem a little tight and they're clearly geared towards selling product, which I shouldn't be surprised at. I do find it a little annoying that cards like TIE/X1 are bundled with a very expensive ship most people are unlikely to buy so the single cards go for almost more than a TIE Advanced on eBay.

If you like the Rebels series there´s no way to miss the Ghost. She´s a lovely model and adds all that fluff. I have her yet, but haven´t played her. Of course I´ll be doing a mission with her and the Imperial assault carrier in it...  :D
