same here and they were 13 and 15 the most recent time.  they've asked a couple of times before then, and naturally i say of course.  but it's the same thing - start working, lay down a few colors, bored, quit.  then i'm left with half finished figures that i can't touch.

Two words - Space Marines.

They are all one colour - then a drybrush for a highlight.  If they aren't bored by then they can pick out the gun in black with a silver drybrush.  Still not bored?  Add some funky colours to the shoulder pads or helmets, or whatever they fancy.  You might need to ensure adequate coverage in stage 1 but after that they are good to go.

It's a matter of excitement.  Painting with Daddy is something that I started aggressively with my girls when they were 2 and 3 respectively.    I have a LOT of rainbow gladiators, gnomes, horses, and plastic army guys/cowboys.  It's how they learn. 

It's only been recently (ages 5 and soon to be 7) that they do a good job of blocking, and this year that I introduced a simple wash and even simpler dry brush technique.

We've been grabbing Bones when they get restocked at the FLGS and the girls are hoping to start detailing some dragon hatchlings. 

Hopefully, my wife will know where all of us our on the weekends, no wild parties, just down in the basement along the painting bench.

@viscounteric:  well done on getting/keeping your kids involved;tell your daughters those chupacabra look great.  from my perspective they're ahead of the learning curve as it took me years to even try dry brushing and washes let alone start getting halfway results.
