Mewlips
« on: 27 February 2016, 03:21:50 PM »
Hello, all.

I've recently finished two miniatures inspired by Tolkien's poem "The Mewlips," from The Adventures of Tom Bombadil.  It's about some horrific creatures that live in a swamp and feed on passers-by.

They're made from GS-ed plague-bearers.

Cheers!
Now what is this whole life of mortals but a sort of comedy, in which the various actors, disguised by various costumes and masks, walk on and play each one his part, until the manager waves them off the stage?

They are very nicely done. Both the conversion and the painting.

They look almost human. Then reading your blog I enjoyed the thought process you went through. The bases work too.

Wow! I was gonna ask where they come from, then read they are converted Plaguebearers...

I have literally hundreds of those Plaguebearers (big Nurgle Daemon army for WHFB!), and did not recognise them at all.

That's the mark of a great conversion. Excellent work!

No matter where you got the inspiration, the miniatures are VERY IMAGINATIVE, AND SPLENDIDLY crafted & painted. VERY WELL DONE!

Thank you all very much for your comments!

Thanks for taking a look. The almost-human look also reminds me a bit of Gollum: ghastly, but at the same time somewhat pitiable.

:)

I really like the plaguebearer plastics. I find them very versatile, and with a little work they can pass for almost any unappetizing beast.

Oh, yes, I remember this.  Quite spooky, actually.  There's also this video

of Tolkien reciting the poem himself, which is worth a listen.
