Reviving an old thread here...

I'm getting ready to paint up some Late War German infantry that I got from Artizan.  Most of them are wearing smocks so I was going to do a camo pattern.  Looking at the guides on Artizan the 1944 camo pattern shows as the "Sumpfmuster 1944", but most of the painted examples of late war Germans I've seen seem to be painted with the "Splittermuster 1941" pattern.  Which pattern would be more appropriate?  My friend is painting up US Paratroopers so this is primarily Western front if that makes a difference.  Thanks for any help.

P.S.  I looked through several of the books in my collection but pictures tend to be in black & white, while color illustrations generally are of the field grey uniforms.

The "Splitter" camo was used during the whole war so I tend to paint it on the "Swamp" one which was used during the late war (44-45).

Nevertheless for Normandy both are fine.

The smocks on the Artizan figures are SS patern I believe rather than Heer pattern (tend to have hoods) or Luftwaffe pattern (thigh length) - except for the rather unique Sumpfmuster pattern used by 21 Pz Div durin g the Normandy Campaign which is similar to the SS Pattern.
